Adelaide is a daily ritual app for iOS built around a single belief: small, consistent acts of presence compound into a clearer life. Three practices, each taking a few minutes, form the core of the experience.
Presence is a guided breathing exercise with three durations and four cadence modes, accompanied by gentle haptic feedback that follows the rhythm of your breath. Play is a contemplative game drawn from a rotating library of ten original titles, each designed to resolve naturally rather than end on a timer. Purpose is a daily reflection prompt that builds a private journal over time, with an optional Look Back view that surfaces moments from across your practice history.
Each practice earns one Clarity, with a maximum of three per day. Over roughly ten days, Clarity gradually reveals a Japanese woodblock scene. When the scene completes, it moves permanently to the user's Library. Sixteen scenes are available at launch, each chosen by the user through a blind selection of evocative keywords.
Adelaide was built by a commercial photographer in Charleston, SC, originally as a gift for his daughter. It became something wider: a daily practice for people who already know their relationship with their phone needs to change, and who are done with apps that exploit that awareness.
Presence offers guided breathwork at three, five, or ten minutes, with cadence modes ranging from calm to an extended goodnight rhythm. The screen shows a single expanding and contracting circle. There is no voice, no instruction beyond the breath itself.
Play rotates a different game each day from a library of ten original titles. Some involve placing stones that ripple outward. Others trace gold along cracked porcelain, stir sediment in still water, or watch a flock find its shape. Each game resolves on its own terms, with a quiet line of text marking the moment. There are no scores, no leaderboards, and no visible timers.
Purpose presents a single question each day at three levels of depth: notice, name, or reflect. Responses are stored locally on the device by default, with an optional encrypted cloud backup. After ten or more reflections, a Look Back view surfaces three moments spread across the user's practice history alongside a simple count of visits.
Adelaide is a direct response to dopamine-driven design. It does not punish absence. It does not exploit attention. It holds space for return, as many times as you need it.
The visual language draws from Japanese woodblock printmaking: flat forms rendered in sage, warm bone, and deep moss. The scenes are not photorealistic and not generated by AI in real time. They are crafted, static, and permanent once earned.
The clarity arc takes roughly ten days by design: long enough to matter, short enough to complete. The app includes a five-day free trial before purchase, because the experience should speak for itself before anyone is asked to pay. The price is $12.99, once, like a book. No subscription, no ads, no in-app upsells.
Every design decision in Adelaide is governed by one question: does this add noise, or does it deepen the quiet?
